Our Approach to Size & Fit
We can probably all agree that the antiquated phrase “one size fits all” is outdated, insensitive, and—frankly—untrue.
At Yoshi Monster, we’re not interested in pretending bodies are the same. What we are interested in is designing pieces that can be shared, borrowed, adopted, and lived in, without rigid rules about who they’re “for.”
Our approach to size and fit is rooted in relatability — not a measurement chart.
Standard Monster Fit (SMF)
Most Yoshi Monster pieces are made in our signature Standard Monster Fit (SMF).
SMF is technically a one-size model — but not because it fits everyone the same way. It fits everyone in their own way. Its exact size is intentionally unclear. What is clear is the feeling the character communicates.
Someone should be able to look at a monster and think, “I’ve felt like that before.” Then look at the sweatshirt and think, “I might be able to wear that.”
That relatability — emotionally and physically — is the point.
SMF details:
- Oversized, unisex, intentionally slouchy
- Comparable to a men’s XL - XXL
- Designed to feel relaxed, shared, and unbothered
- Intended fit for the majority of our pieces
A Note on Choice
Standard Monster Fit is the intended experience of our designs.
Alternative sizing exists to support comfort and function when SMF genuinely isn’t workable—not as an expanded menu of options. If you find yourself debating between sizes, SMF is likely the right choice.
When Standard Monster Fit Isn’t Functional
Even with a strong ethos around shared sizing, we understand that there are situations where Standard Monster Fit simply isn’t viable.
Some of the women in our family are very petite—an oversized sweatshirt on one person may wear like a three-quarter-length dress on another. On the other end, we have uncles and close friends whose bodies fall outside the range where SMF would feel comfortable or functional.
And comfort is not optional at Yoshi Monster. It’s foundational.
Most Yoshi Monster pieces are produced exclusively in Standard Monster Fit. Alternative sizing is limited and processed by request/inquiry only.
